R & D Technical Manager
As R & D Technical Manager for Chelsea Milling Co., you will provide technical expertise for development work and coordinate the efforts of the technical team to fulfill company objectives. Projects will include overseeing new product development, improvement and cost savings projects, supplier ingredient approvals, and packaging graphics development. This position also supports operational needs to ensure that all work supports the efficiency of production and consistent reliable mixes to produce quality baked goods. Projects must take into consideration the effects of ingredients, processing, and environment on the finished mixes to meet quality and shelf-life standards.
The Technical Manager provides scientific expertise and is responsible for staying current with emerging food science and ingredient trends to meet the growth, quality, consistency, and cost objectives of the company. Additional responsibilities also include overseeing the formal sensory program and pilot plant for development projects.
This position will ensure proper resource allocation to the priorities of the department and provide guidance and direction to team members. The manager will be accountable for the continuous development of direct reports.
The preferred qualifications for this position include:
- This position requires a four-year college degree in Food Science or related field.
- 10 plus years related experience in product development and scaling laboratory formulas to manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing the daily activities of the R & D department in a food manufacturing company.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in baking mix ingredient technology, functionality, food science principles and mix processing.
- Experience working with commercial kitchen, laboratory, and manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to articulate technical information, testing design and results to a cross functional team including senior management.
- Experience in GMPs, HACCP programs, and complying with other regulatory agencies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Nutrition software.
- Ability to travel 10 – 15%.
